US coast guard crew have near-miss with shark in Pacific Ocean

An officer on board the ship shot at an 8ft-long (2.4m) shark to discourage it from attacking the crew members, who have been swimming within the Pacific Ocean.

Nearly 40 crew members have been within the ocean on the time however Petty Officer Samuel Cintron who was on shark-watch responsibility on the Cutter Kimball managed to distract the shark.

No-one was injured and the creature appeared to swim away unhurt.
